Mitchell Motors are specialists in classic car restoration and work on all types of vehicles including ACs, Aston Martins, Bentleys, Bristols, Bugattis, Frazer Nash, Delage, Lancia, BMW and many more. All of our bodywork is carried out in-house and as well as our traditional methods we utilise innovative technology whenever we can.
Enhancing CAD technology we designed and built our very own sports car, the 'Mitchell Special'.
Andrew had been thinking about building his own classic 2 seater sports car for many years. Then the opportunity came when Andrew teamed up with CAD designer Stuart Brown, to turn his initial sketches into workable computer vehicle design concepts. More sketches were drawn up and designs worked on until gradually the 50s inspired sports car started to come together.
Over a two month period twenty one versions were created as the shape was refined and perfected.
The Mitchell Special was looking good.
From the final design a CAD 3D former was created and the files then output directly to a computer controlled cutting machine. The machine cut sheets of ply were then peiced together creating our 'real life' 3D shape.
The body shell was then hand crafted over the former whilst all running gear from a donor Bristol car was being refurbished and prepared for fitting.
With the bodywork finished and painted in Andrew's own colour scheme, and the engine and running gear fitted, the Mitchell Special was born!
It was such a success we then built a second - The Mitchell Special MKII which you see here.
